Laminate Floor Installation Instructions

Be sure to read the instructions carefully before installing your Taiga Select laminate flooring, as improper installation will render the warranty void.

  • For your Taiga Select laminate flooring to be fully appreciated and envied, it must climatize to the environment to avoid bridging. The unopened package must lie horizontally in the installation area for 48 hours at an approximate temperature of 18-24ºC and a relative humidity of 35-50 percent. To prevent warping, do not install your Taiga select laminate flooring in damp rooms.

Required Tools and Supplies:

  • Taiga Select foam underlay, spacers, tapping block, pull bar, saw, hammer, painter's tape, utility knife, pencil, tape measure, ruler, construction adhesive, and pressure sensitive polypropylene adhesive tape (Tuck Tape).
Prepare Your Floor:
  • Taiga Select foam underlay must be placed beneath your Taiga select laminate flooring to ensure comfort and noise reduction. Different types of Taiga select foam underlay should be used depending on the type of floor you are installing on (concrete, plywood, etc.), and whether you are installing on the ground floor or higher, as higher levels may need better sound insulation.
  • Make sure the Taiga Select laminate and foam underlay will fit under your open doors.
  • If installing over a crawlspace or on a concrete floor, you must install a 4 mm (or thicker) polyethylene vapor barrier under your Taiga Select foam underlay or use a convenient 2 in 1 foam underlay that has a vapor barrier built-in. When installing 2 in 1 foam underlay, butt seams and then completely seal seams using Tuck Tape.
  • The sublfloor must be thoroughly even, dry, clean, and solid.
  • Be sure to check that your floor is level. If your floor has any waves or bumps, your Taiga Select laminate flooring can not be installed correctly. Self-leveling compound can be used to level your floor.
  • Floors must be carefully checked for moisture problems. Any moisture problems need to be solved before installation. New concrete needs to cure for at least 60 days before installation.
  • This product is not suitable for damp rooms such as bathrooms, saunas, rooms with damp concrete, rooms with floor drains, or rooms that could potentially flood.
  • For installation on concrete floors or any floors over a crawl space, a vapor barrier must be laid down first. Use 4 mm poly. Run the poly 5 cm (2") up walls and overlap seams 45 cm (18"). Tape seams.

Installation of Your Laminate Flooring:

Fig. 1:

First plank, first row.
Place a 8-10mm expansion gap to the left and position the plank against the wall.

Later, after 3 rows of planks have been installed, you can easily position the flooring against the front wall with expension gap of 8-10mm.

Fig. 2:

Second plank, first row
Press the short end of the next plank at an angle to the first one, then lay down. Complete the first row.

Fig. 3:

First measure the length from the wall to the last piece, insure to leave an expansion gap of 8-10mm to the wall and measure the length of the last plank to fit.

Fig. 4:

Cut with a jig saw - decor turned down or with a hand saw with the decor visible.

Fig. 5:

Second row.
First plank min length 200mm. Maintain proper expansion gap against the wall.

Fig. 6:

General distance between short ends should be a Minimum of 150mm. Insure to stagger the end joints in subsequent rows as you work through the room.

Fig. 7:

Place the plank an angle against the plank in the previous row, press forward and fold down at the same time until reaching a neutral position.

* Neutral position is 25mm from level.

Fig. 8:

Second plank second row.
Place the short end of the plank at an angle against the previous installed plank and fold down at the same time until reaching the neutral position.

Fig. 9:

Lift plank (together with the previous installed planks in the same row) lightly up (about 25mm) and push them against the row in front. Put them down when the planks are positioned tightly together.

Fig. 10:

After 2-3 rows.
Adjust the distance to the front wall by placing the proper expansion gap of 8-10mm. Insert wedges at this point.

Fig. 11:

If the wall is uneven, the plank must be adapted to its contours. Mark the plank with the contour of the wall. Do not forget to leave a 8-10mm expansion gap to the wall.

Fig. 12:

To remove the first row, lift the plank a few centimetres and tap along the joint. Cut the plank as required.

Fig. 13:

Reinstall the first row from left to right. Press the planks against the edge of planks that are already in position, with the strip first.

Disassembling

Your floor can very easy be disassembled, which enables replacement during installation and also after made installation when it is needed or desired to replace one or several planks or even the whole floor.

Fig. 14:

Last row .
Remember the expansion gap to the wall should be 8-10mm. Tip! Put a spacer before measuring. Cut the planks lengthwise and install.

Release by angling up

Fig. 15:

Separate the whole row by carefully lifting up and releasing the whole row. Fold up and release the whole long side.

Fig. 16:

Disassemble the planks by angling the short sides up vertically.

Release by sliding

Fig. 17:

Separate the whole row by carefully lifting up and releasing the whole row.
Fold up and release the whole long side.

Fig. 18:

Disassemble the planks by sliding horizontally.

Horizontal installation

Fig. 19 & 20:

Cut off the locking element with a chisel, put white glue (PVAc) on the adjusted strip and push the planks horizontally together. If necessary place some spacers between last plank and the wall during the hardening time of the glue. The method can also be applied to the short ends.

Radiator pipes

Fig. 21 & 22:

Installation at for example radiator pipes.
Mark the centre of the holes and drill the hole with a diameter 20 mm bigger than the pipe diameter
(= 10 mm gap around), cut as shown. Install the floor plank.
Put white PVAc glue on the cut piece and replace.

After the installation

You can use the Taiga Select laminate floor immediately after installation.

The skirtings must be fixed to the walls (never to the floor).

Room climate Humidifier or de-humidifier needed?

At all times, the recommended room relative humidity (RH) of 35-50 % and temperature of 18-24 °C should be kept. If necessary install a humidifier/dehumidifier to ensure the best climate for yourself , furniture and your Taiga select floor.

If the climate is not maintained or the products are not correctly installed, the floor can show some gaps, at dry climate also concave (cupping boards) or at high RH%: convex boards.

Cleaning and maintenance

The floor should be cleaned by using a vacuum-cleaner or brushed. If required, wipe with a damp-dry (well squeezed) cloth. Use a recommended hardwood/laminate floor cleaner.

Any water spilt accidentally must be wiped off immediately.

Floor protection furniture, entrances

Stick felt pads to chair and other pieces of furniture legs. Place doormats at out door entrances.
